When Sonita was ten yes old, her parents told her"we have to sell you into marriage. They started buying her nice clothe and taking more care of her than they had ever before.
Sonita did not know exactly what this had meant, but she knew she did not want to get married: she wanted to write and sing songs.
She told her Mum but her mum said that they need to sell her for her brothers marriage.
Soon war broke out in Afghanistan where the family lived and Sonita and her brother were sent away to live in a refugee camp.
Then Sonita went to a school nearby and started to write her songs.
When Sonita was only 16 years old her mum came to visit her and told her she needs to come back to Afghanistan because they had found another husband who wanted to buy her, again Sonita told her no Sonita loved her mum but she wanted to be a rapper.
She hen wrote a hard hitting song called "Brides for Sale" and uploaded it to YouTube. The video went viral and Sonita became famous. she won a scholarship to study music in America.
